Sited 2 miles south of Penrith this is a small pele tower, which now stands in a farmyard. It was built in the 16th century when the danger from the Scots invaders was not so great, so is not as massive as earlier pele towers and the windows are a bit larger
The base is a 33 feet by 26 feet rectangle, with a number of rooms on the ground floor and a staircase going up to the upper floors and the roof
English Heritage provide information on pele towers and what this tower would have been like in its hay day
