All that remains of the 12th century Augustinian Priory (apart from the church) is this gatehouse
The priory had a colourful history. It had to be defensively strengthened following a series of raids by Robert the Bruce. Then after the dissolution of the monasteries, it served as a grammar school from 1624 to 1790
